IT job market 2025: Which skills will be in high demand?

IT job market 2025: Companies are looking for specialists but can’t find them

The IT job market continues to struggle with a talent shortage, but the issue is more complex than before. According to a CRN Poland analysis, 39% of companies plan to recruit in the first quarter of 2025, and 86% of employers intend to expand their workforce. At the same time, 53% of organizations are struggling to find suitable candidates.

Why?

  • There is a lack of experts in key areas such as AI, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.
  • The number of junior candidates is rising, but the market demands experienced specialists.
  • Automation is eliminating some roles, such as network and database administrators.

According to Coursera’s analysis, the most in-demand IT skills for 2025 include:

  • Machine Learning (68%)
  • Python (61%)
  • Cloud architecture
  • Cybersecurity

Data from KZ Inspire shows that technical recruitment processes take 10–20 days longer than in other industries, and each interview requires 14 more hours of involvement from both recruiters and candidates.

How AI is reshaping the IT job market and creating new professions

Will AI take people’s jobs? This question arises every year, but the answer is not straightforward. According to a DCHouse report, AI in IT is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and its impact on the job market is becoming more apparent. Algorithms increasingly take over repetitive tasks, from code analysis to IT infrastructure management. However, they are also creating entirely new professions.

New IT Professions in 2025:

  • Prompt Engineer – an expert in optimizing AI model queries.
  • MLOps Engineer – manages AI models in production environments.
  • AI Auditor – ensures AI algorithms comply with regulations and ethical standards.
  • AI Cybersecurity Engineer – secures AI-based systems.

Hybrid work and the IT job market: Are companies returning to offices?

A few years ago, remote work seemed like the new norm, but 2025 brings a surprise—many companies are returning to offices.

In 2024, 32% of IT specialists worked fully remotely, but more organizations are now adopting a hybrid model.

Why do companies want employees back in the office?

  • They claim it enhances collaboration and boosts productivity.
  • In their view, teamwork is more effective when done in person.
  • Additionally, they seek greater oversight of employee involvement.

However, not all IT employees are happy with these changes, and the future of hybrid work models remains uncertain.

How to Adapt to Changes in IT?

Salaries – A Growing Divide

Not every IT specialist can expect a pay raise. An AI engineer can earn up to $150,000 annually, but IT administration and support roles face wage stagnation or even declines.

What to do? Invest in your development and learn modern technologies.

Lifelong Learning – Learn or Disappear

The IT industry is changing so rapidly that what was standard yesterday may be obsolete tomorrow. 44% of current IT skills will become outdated.

The best solution is continuous learning through online courses, certifications, and hands-on experience.

Personal Branding – How You Are Seen Determines Your Job Prospects

45% of recruiters check candidates’ activity on LinkedIn and Stack Overflow.

How to Stand Out?

  • Regularly post content on LinkedIn.
  • Maintain an active portfolio on GitHub.
  • Engage in open-source projects.

Without an online presence, securing a good job offer is much harder today.

Summary: How to Succeed in IT?

  • Invest in AI and machine learning – it’s the future.
  • Build personal branding – without visibility, getting a good job is harder.
  • Keep learning – technology waits for no one.
  • Be flexible – hybrid work models are becoming the norm.

The IT industry still offers tremendous opportunities, but only for those who can keep up with the pace of change.
